The High School Jewish Scholar Athlete Program was established to recognize local high school Jewish athletes who have excelled in the classroom and in the athletic arena. All student athletes who meet the criteria will be honored at a ceremony at the JCC. A Scholar/Athlete Award has been endowed by the family of Don Erkis in the memory of Don Erkis and Lou Berliner. Both men, members of the Jewish Center Sports Hall of Fame, were active sportsmen their entire lives. Their interest and involvement with high school Jewish athletes was an inspiration to all. The outstanding male and female applicants will receive: A scholarship award in the amount of $500. All applicants will appear in a group photo to be displayed in the JCC’s Recreation & Wellness area and will receive a one year JCC membership, a $50 gift certificate, and a fitness evaluation by a JCC Personal Trainer. Candidates must reside in the Central Ohio area, be Jewish high school students graduating and attending college, and have participated in a high school sport, club level sport, or another recognized amateur sport. Candidates must have achieved a 3.0 (B) G.P.A. after seven (7) semesters.
