The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus held its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 25. Using the “Spirit of the Games” for the theme, each department shared records achieved in the past year, such as Kaleidoscope’s largest enrollment (115 kids), most fitness visitors in one day (591), and the most Roundtable Award Nominations for a single Gallery Players season (19). Rachel Lichten led the event as Annual Meeting Chair.
Several members of the community were honored with awards. Linda Porter accepted the Joel Dinkin Staff Award for her six years working as Housekeeping Supervisor at the JCC. The Rabbi Nathan & Sylvia Gaynor Jewish Cultural Award was presented to the Legends of Gallery Players planning committee including Fred Luper (committee chair), Joan Fishel (Gallery Players Chair), Carol Luper, Rena Vesler and Anca Galron. Rebecca Kastan Lipnick presented the Shehechyanu Teacher of the Year Award to winner Tifaney George. The Helen Nutis Volunteer Mitzvah Award was presented to Marikate Leavens and Yaffa Gewirtz. In her honor and memory, Helen’s niece Jodi Karmia presented the award.
The JCC also welcomed new board members Rachel Abeles, Josh Barkan, Ayelet Ben-David, Howard Burnett , Ben Kozberg, Babs Miller, Heather Pliskin, Lauren Rubin and Jim Winnegrad. Immediate past President Lisa Newmark also thanked retiring board members Gary Cheses, Jon Segaloff, Wendy Cohen, June Frankel, Barry Igdaloff and Miriam Portman for their service.
