Auditions for 'Joseph and Koza' is Oct. 5-6

An open audition for school children to be cast in the Gallery Players' production of Joseph and Koza, will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Monday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the JCC's Roth-Resler Theater. Gallery Players' winter Children's Production will be directed by Laurie Alexander.

Based on a short story by Isaac Bashevis Singer (with book, music and lyrics by Sean Hartley), this children's tale takes place in the wild and superstitious kingdom of Mazovia in ancient Poland. Like other royal maidens, Princess Koza faces danger - she's to be sacrificed to a river demon - but her rescuer isn't the usual sort. Instead of a prince charming, he's a nice young Jewish goldsmith. Joseph, the goldsmith, wanders into Mazovia, whose backward inhabitants fear Zla, an evil witch. When she chooses Koza for the sacrifice, even the king, Wilk, feels powerless. But Joseph convinces him and the rest of the townspeople that they are in control of their own demons, if only they will believe in themselves. Last season, Gallery Players performed another of Singer's tales, Mazel and Shlimazel, both plays adapted by Sean Hartley.)

Joseph and Koza will run two consecutive weekends, from Saturday, Dec. 13 through Sunday, Dec. 21, with one Thursday evening performance on Dec. 18. For more information, click here, or call (614) 559-6248.
