JCC to Host Two Political Forums in Early October

The JCC will host two political forums in early October that will feature lively discussions from candidates as well as political analysts.

On Friday, Oct. 3, beginning at 9:30 a.m., in conjunction with the Franklin County Consortium for Good Government, the JCC will present a "Meet the Candidates" forum. Candidates invited to participate in the forum include those running for office in the: U.S. House of Representatives, 12th district, Steven R. Linnabary (I), David Robinson (D), and Pat Tiberi (R); Franklin County Probate Court Judge, Lawrence A. Belskis and Eric Brown; Franklin County Clerk of Courts, Clarence E. Mingo II (R) and Maryellen O'Shaughnessy (D); Ohio House, 27th District, Jim Hunter (R) and W. Carlton Weddington (D); Ohio House 19th District, Marian Harris (D) and Brad Lewis (R); and Franklin County Commissioner, Jeffery J. Miller (R) and John O'Grady (D).

The event is being hosted by the New Horizons 60+ group at the JCC, and is sponsored in part by the Columbus Jewish Federation, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the League of Women Voters. The forum will be moderated by a local news anchor from either NBC 4, WSYX-TV 6, WBNS-10TV, or WOSU. For more information, contact Debbie Vinocur, New Horizons program director, at (614) 559-6214.

Friday, Oct. 3, also is the final day voter registration will be offered at the JCC. Voter registration forms currently are available at the JCC's front desk. Registration is open to U.S. citizens residing in Franklin County 30 days prior to the election, and who will be at least 18 years old on Nov. 4. Registrants will need to provide either their current valid Ohio driver's license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number in order to complete the registration form. Completed forms may be dropped off at the JCC or mailed to the Secretary of State, P.O. Box 2828, Columbus, OH 43216-2828. Deadline to register to vote in the General Elections is Monday, Oct. 6.

The JCC also will host "A Debate on the Presidential Election from a Jewish Perspective," on Monday, Oct. 6, beginning at 6:45 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be a community conversation with Stu Sandler, National Deputy Executive Director of the Republican Jewish Coalition and Ira Forman, National Executive Director of the National Jewish Democratic Council.
