When six members of the Worly family arrived at the groundbreaking for the JCC New Albany Community Complex on Oct. 5, there was only one missing - matriarch Yetta Worly. "She had a shower to go to, otherwise she'd be here, too," said her son, Jay, with a laugh.

Jay, his wife, Kathy, son, Jeff, daughter-in-law, Laurie, and grandchildren, Alexander and Abigail, had gathered not only to mark the occasion, but also to represent four generations of Worlys to be intimately involved with the JCC.

"The Worlys have been involved in every aspect of the JCC since Jay's Hebrew school was located in the old JCC building," said Kathy. "Our sons, Jon and Jeff went to preschool there, followed by participating in athletics at the JCC through high school.

"Our grandchildren now are the second generation to be educated at the JCC preschool," she said.

The family also serves as volunteers for the JCC. Kathy has served on the JCC Board of Trustees, and was chair of the former Israel Department. Laurie currently serves as co-chair of the JCC New Albany Early Childhood Parent Committee (ECPC).

Most recently, Jay and Kathy gave a significant gift to the JCC New Albany Community Complex project naming a classroom in the new preschool in honor of their children and grandchildren.

"Jay and I wanted to give back to the community in a very meaningful way," said Kathy. "Our gift to the New Albany JCC will give us the opportunity to watch our grandchildren benefit from the quality Jewish education, athletic opportunities and Jewish cultural events the JCC has to offer."

"We want to continue to set an example to others in the community to step up and contribute to the JCC, so that future generations in Columbus and the surrounding communities will benefit as well," said Jay.
