Gallery Players Present
Winter Children's Musical, Joseph and Koza

Joseph and Koza
King Wilk (center) and his guards admire the new golden crown made by Joseph in the upcoming Gallery Players' production of "Joseph and Koza." They are, left to right, are Noah Portman, Laron Hudson, and Bradley Rosenstein.

Welcome to Mazovia - a fictional village in Poland, whose people live in fear of demons that threaten natural disasters unless their demands are met. Ruled by the ineffectual King Wilk, the people of Mazovia are gullible to the mumbo-jumbo of the evil (yet bufoonish) witch, Zla.

When Zla decrees that the king's daughter, Koza, is to be sacrificed the the river demon, a stranger in town decides to put a stop to all of the nonsense. The stranger, Joseph the goldsmith, convinces King Wilk and the rest of the townspeople that they are in control of their own demons, if only they will believe in themselves.

Mazovia - and all of its meshuga'as - will be brought to the Eisenstein Stage in the JCC's Roth-Resler Theater as Gallery Players' Winter Children's Musical for two consecutive weekends, from Saturday, Dec. 13 through Sunday, Dec. 21, with one Thursday evening performance on Dec. 18.

Based on a short story by Isaac Bashevis Singer (with book, music and lyrics by Sean Hartley), the production is being directed by Laurie Alexander, who also directed Gallery Players' presentation of Mazel and Shlimazel last winter. Allie Ultley is serving as Music Director, David Atkinson is Technical Director, and the play is being stage managed by Karen Tylak.

Jonathan Collura is playing the part of Joseph, with Jessica Kahn portraying his princess fair. Laron Hudson is in the role of King Wilk, playing off of Kriss Galloway's portrayal of the evil witch, Zla.

Mazovian townsfolk are being played by JCC teens and 'tweens Julia Applefeld, Michelle Conison, Ariel Cohen, Heather Cooperman, Ori Kagan, Becky and Noah Portman, Bradley Rosenstein, and Sophie Schuss.

Tickets are on sale now at $12 for JCC members, $16 for nonmembers, $10 for senior members, $14 for senior nonmembers, $8 for children or students, and $10 per ticket for groups of 10 or more.
