I was watching the children as they walked down the hallway the other day, and thinking how much they have grown over the past six months.

Do you remember that first week of school with your child? There were tears and children clinging to their parents, because that first day was a new experience for many of them. They had to learn to trust their teachers and become comfortable on their own. There were new rules to learn, directions to follow, and friends to make. Play became a very important part of their daily activity as they learned so much from it. Teachers were there to guide them and encourage them as they learned how to share and explore in a classroom environment. They provided that extra hug or kiss when a child was sad and kept an extra close eye on them to make sure they were safe.

Teachers are very special people and I believe that our teachers at JCC East are an exceptional group of teachers! They are committed to making sure your child has the best quality learning experience possible. In addition to teaching children, the teachers spend many hours preparing lesson plans, creating journals, talking to parents, and staying current on the latest Early Childhood trends. It takes commitment and dedication to create a quality classroom. The teachers are the heart of our preschool.

At the JCC, we are very fortunate to be able to thank our teachers for all they do, by nominating them for the annual "Shehechyanu Award." I was very lucky to be the first "teacher of the year" at the JCC. It was an honor to be able to accept that award and know that it was in recognition for all I have done over the years at the JCC. Over the past years Leslie Rosen, Holly Somogyi, and Linda Muzzo have received the Shehechyanu Award, thanks to all the nominations by parents on their behalf. This is a chance for the parents to speak up and let their child's teacher know how much they appreciate them.
