Due to popular demand, the 2nd annual JCC Member Juried Art Show has been extended through Tuesday, June 2, closing with an artists' reception from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The exhibit and reception, which is open to the public, is located in the JCC's lobby.

"Originally, the show was to close in May, but we received such complimentary feedback from our members and guests regarding the quality of the art that we decided to extend the show through the beginning of June," said JCC Assistant Executive Director Tim Kauffman.

In mid-March, JCC members willing to share their artistic talents submitted a total of 72 pieces for consideration in the show, with 47 of them being selected by the jury.

The works of art, done by professional and emerging artists alike, offer a wide range of media. Everything from recycled objects (including paper and wood) to ceramics, and photography to mosaics, as well as more traditional paintings and sketches, are included. Many of the works are for sale, and several have been sold during the exhibit's run thus far, noted Kauffman.

Among the pieces currently on exhibit are:

  • Sunday Morning, by Bev Darwin, an oil on canvas that evokes the drowsy pace of reading the Sunday morning paper.
  • Every Generation Has One, by Columbus artist Hani Hara, a vibrantly hued acrylic on paper depicting President Barack Obama.
  • Lady of Colors, by Dr. Steven Paine, a mixed media collage of pen, ink, and paper imbued with rich golds and earth tones.

The exhibit is open to the public during the JCC's normal hours of operation: Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, from 1:30 to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, visit the JCC website at www.columbusjcc.org or contact the JCC at (614) 231-2731.
