Dana Horowitz, director of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School at the JCC, received an Achievement Award and certification from the Mini-School's International Directors at their 15th annual conference in Baltimore on Dec. 6-9. Pictured here are: Dr. Yonatan Mirvis, International Director, Florence Melton Adult Mini-School; Don Katz, National Board Member; Horowitz; and Judy Mars Kupchan, Director of the Mini-School's North American Division.
The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School has been at our JCC since 1988, and has graduated hundreds of students, including the JCC's current Board of Trustees President, Marc Fishel. Previous students of the Mini-School have praised Horowitz's direction, instructors, and curriculum. "The Mini-School has made me feel more comfortable as a Jew and a community member," said Cheri Leeman, who currently is enrolled in the second year course. Rebecca Gurk, who is a Mini-School graduate and currently is attending its graduate course, said, "I never realized the world that would be opened to me as a result of my studies in the Mini-School."
Horowitz said the Mini-School is planning a month of "March Madness," during which members of the public are invited to attend a class free of charge at the JCC, which sponsors the Mini-School. "Come experience for yourself the excitement of a Mini-School class," she said. "Some of the lessons will include the Jewish perspective on conversion, adoption, burial, mourning, end of life decisions, and much more!"
Florence Melton Adult Mini-School classes are held Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Northeast Jewish Community Campus, 150 E. Granville Rd., New Albany, and Tuesday evenings at the JCC, 1125 College Ave., Columbus. For more information, contact Dana at (614) 559-6238 or dhorowitz@columbusjcc.org.
