JCC Aquatics Director Phil Sobers, who also is a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves, has been called up for duty in Iraq. Working as a civil engineer, he will be stationed at Kirkuk Air Base in northern Iraq until mid-October. While he is away, Jo Miller will serve as Acting Aquatics Director.

Prior to his departure, Phil was feted at an "All American Sendoff" party in his honor during the S'more Shabbat at the College Avenue Preschool on April 25. The children, wearing hats emblazoned with "We'll miss you, Phil," presented him with paper replicas of the American flag (which now hang in the Aquatics office), and gave him a paper crown they had made.

"We're very proud of Phil, and we certainly wish him safety and health while he is in Iraq, and a speedy return to us," said Jeanna Brownlee, Sports and Wellness director.
