If you've ever wondered what it would be like to become a lifeguard, here's your chance. If you are between the ages of 11 and 14 and see yourself as becoming a lifeguard someday, check out the "GuardStart" course being offered this summer at Camp Hoover.
"GuardStart is perfect for those who are interested in becoming a lifeguard but are not yet old enough to enroll in an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Training Course," said Jenni Metter, Camp Hoover Aquatics Supervisor. Metter also is assisting at the JCC pools as Head Aquatics Supervisor and Lifeguard Supervisor under the direction of Jo Miller while Aquatics Director Phil Sobers is in Iraq.
"By enrolling in the program, you'll experience what it takes to be a great lifeguard. We'll be working on basic lifeguarding skills and will be working with dive bricks and rescue tubes," she said.
Essential lifeguarding skills that will be taught include: prevention of aquatic accidents; fitness and swimming skills; response in an emergency; leadership skills, and professionalism of a lifeguard.
