Israel's 60th will be celebrated with art and fun
Israel's 60th anniversary will be celebrated in a fun and unique way on May 18 with an art in the park event combined with a walk/run.
Beginning at 9 a.m. in Goodale Park, central Ohio artists are invited to participate in a "Celebration of the Land of Israel," by creating paintings in the park based on the theme of celebrating Israel. Outdoor acrylic paints and 4-foot-by-4-foot boards will be provided to each artist for their use.
While the artists are at work, members of the community will be able to watch and vote on their favorite works by putting money in a designated paint can located near the artist. The funds collected will go to charity.
At the conclusion of the day, the artwork will be moved over to the JCC, where it will be on display for a month before being auctioned off.
For more information on the "Paint the Land" portion of the celebration, contact Chairperson Harlan Schottenstein at (614) 563-1710 or Community Shaliach Avi Kagan at (614) 237-7686.
The event also will include a "Walk the Land with Israel" one-mile walk/5k run, the route of which will be lined with beautiful murals depicting cities in Israel so that participants may literally "walk the land" of Israel from North to South. It is estimated that 100 additional communities also will be participating in this international project. Participants in this portion of the event will receive t-shirts, water bottles and sling packs depicting the Israel At 60 logo.
Registration for the "Walk the Land" one-mile walk/5k run is $6 per entrant before May 8, and $10 on the day of the event. Registrants are automatically entered to win one of 10 free round-trip tickets to Israel. To register, click here or contact Nancy Rosen at (614) 559-3250.
The Israel @ 60 Community events are supported in partnership by the Columbus Jewish Federation and the Columbus Jewish Foundation.
