Are You Up for The 300 Challenge?

300 Challenge

If you saw last summer's blockbuster movie, 300, the fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, with its buffed-out, righteous Spartans, you'll immediately see why the JCC's newest fitness challenge truly will live up to its name.

"I saw a documentary about how they made the movie and how the actors trained before filming to get those abs," said JCC Personal Trainer Matt Trammel. "They were flipping tractor tires, and all kinds of crazy stuff. We wanted to see what we could do in the gym that might replicate the type of training they were doing, and came up with the '300 Challenge'."

The JCC's 300 Challenge consists of seven tasks done with multiple repetitions in 25 minutes or less. For men, this means 25 pull-ups at the beginning of the challenge and 25 at the end; in between are 50 deadlifts of 135 pounds, 50 push-ups, 50 box jumps,50 floor wipers of 135 pounds, and 50 clean and presses of 35 pounds.

For women, the 25 pull-ups at the beginning and end of the challenge are done with a 60-pound assist. The middle portion of the challenge for women consists of 50 deadlifts of 85 pounds, 50 push-ups, 50 box jumps, 50 floor wipers of 65 pounds, and 50 clean and presses of 20 pounds.

If you can complete the JCC's 300 Challenge in 25 minutes or less, you are crowned a true champion and have the chance to win 2 free sessions of Personal Training, a free 300 Challenge t-shirt, a free massage, and your name posted on the Challenge board.

The 300 Challenge can be done at any time; however, Trammel suggests those interested speak with him for tips and training in preparation. Entry fee is $20.
