Long-time JCC member Pam Scheer has been named Fitness Member of the Month for May/June. By working out at the JCC, she said she has lost 11% of her body fat. Read on!
How long have you been a member of the JCC?
I think about 30 years. I joined because I was involved with Gallery Players.
How is the JCC part of your regular routine? What do you do when you come, and how much time do you spend here?
I'm in the JCC a lot because we're getting ready to celebrate Gallery's 60th season. Three times a week I come to the Fitness Center.
What is your favorite activity in the Diamond Family Fitness Center?
Working with my trainer, Bobbi Lohiser.
Your favorite piece of cardio equipment? Favorite weight machine or exercise?
I have a love-hate relationship with all of the equipment. I appreciate what they do for me but I can't really say I have a favorite.
I always use the treadmill because that helps me get a good assessment of how my fitness is improving. I also make sure that I use
7 to 10 machines in the weight room on each trip. I love it when I can increase the amount of weight I'm using.
Do you participate in any leagues or group exercise classes? If so, what are your favorites?
I have taken a yoga class for many years and I love that.
How does your participation at the JCC fit into your health and wellness lifestyle and fitness program?
It's very convenient to have such a great facility so close to home. Since I'm in the JCC for lots of other reasons, it fits into
my life very well. And, of course, the easier it is to use, the more likely I am to use it. Years ago we used to use the track and
indoor pool all of the time. It took us a long time to discover the Diamond Fitness Center. Now we're regulars.
Have you set health and wellness goals for yourself? How has the staff at the JCC helped you to reach your goals?
What kind of results have you achieved with your regular routine?
Of course, I want to lose weight but really I want to improve my overall health and strength. I have some issues with bone density
so the weight training is great for me. My most significant result is that in six months, my body fat has dropped by 11%.
How would you describe the JCC to a non-member? What would you recommend most about the JCC to a prospective member?
There are lots of other health clubs, but there aren't any others that have all of the other programming offered at the JCC.
You're really getting a lot of bang for your buck.
What does being part of the JCC mean to you?
It's been an integral part of my life since before I was married. I met my husband, Ira, in the light booth of the old building
and ours was the first wedding in the new building. Our kids went to preschool at the JCC. It took me a long time to get involved
with the fitness center, but I'm glad I did.
