
Mark your calendars now for the JCC's annual Sports Spectacular event, which will be taking place on Aug. 24, 25 and Sept. 9. The annual fundraiser for the JCC will kick off with a day of basketball and racquetball at the JCC on Sunday, Aug. 24, followed by a day of golf and tennis at the New Albany Country Club on Monday, Aug. 25.
Registration and warm-ups for the basketball and raquetball tournaments on Aug. 24 begin at 9 a.m., with both tournaments running from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration and lunch for the golf outing will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Registration and lunch for the afternoon of tennis on Aug. 25 will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The golf outing will begin with a shotgun start at 11:45 a.m., and a cocktail reception and winner presentation will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The tennis matches are slated to be played from 12:20 to 4:30 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception and winner presentation from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
In keeping the tradition of a split-format, the event will continue on Tuesday, Sept. 9, for an evening of celebration and recognition. That evening, Heidi Levey (top photo) will be honored with the Charles Solomon Award, and Jerry Schiff (middle photo) and Eric Golden (lower photo)will be inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Doug Gottlieb, co-host of ESPN Radio's GameNight and host of "The Pulse with Doug Gottlieb," will be the keynote speaker.
David Goldstein and Steve Yaffe are serving as co-chairs for this year's Sports Spectacular. Committee members include Bob Darwin, Aaron Gilbert, Julie Glassman, Carol Glassman, Pam Gurwin, Murray Guttman, Shelly Igdaloff, Barry Katz, Rick Meizlish, Jon Meyer, Wes Rosenthal, Joe Sniderman, Sandy Solomon, AJ Solomon, Matt Topolosky, David Valinsky, Eric Wasserstrom, Steve Weiler and Jon Young.
