The JCC is the place to be to learn and to connect with friends. ACBL-certified teacher and director Marsha Reall will conduct  Refresher Bridge classes, open to the JCC members and non-members. Reall, who is the North Central Regional Director of ABTA, a member of the Central Ohio Bridge Association (COBA) Board of Directors, and an ACBL Life Master, will oversee the games and ensure players are credited properly for ACBL rankings.

New Horizons for Active Adults

Did you know that the New Horizons 60+ Group for Active Adults, which was originally called the ‘Golden Age Club,’ has been in operation at the JCC since 1949 to address the needs and overall well-being of the senior adult population?

The group provides socialization, activities and programming, as well as hot Kosher lunches on weekdays in partnership with LifeCare Alliance.

In addition to lunch and programs, our New Horizons 60+ group has the opportunity to go on trips around town each month. Join us!

Journeys Comes to the JCC

A Loaf of Bread, A Jug of Wine and You is the new thought provoking learning experience that will engage your mind, senses and memories. Journeys unit explores the Jewish perspective on food and our relationship with it through special traditions and moments in our lives.   The curriculum discusses generally why and when people eat and drink and the memory, meaning, and foods that help us celebrate life and bring us together as family, friends and neighbors, intimate others, Jewish holidays and festivals, God, and ourselves. The four weeks session will be taught by Professor David Stein, OSU Melton School. Classes begin Wednesday, February 1, 2012 through February 22, 2012 from 7:00-8:00pm. Adult Arts and Culture Classes at the J

Take a break and learn a craft! Arts and Culture courses are being offered at the JCC to engage your creative side.  A variety of courses will be offered including Basic and Refresher Bridge, Mah Jongg, Judaic Mosaic, Basic Beading, Adult Chess Club and Journeys: Adult Jews Living and Learning with more classes on the way. Florence Melton Adult Mini-School – Give us 2 hours and we’ll give you 5,000 years!

The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is a two-year course of study that meets for 30 weeks during the year that presents a comprehensive Judaic curriculum ranging from the Jewish life cycle to Jewish ethics and history. The Melton Mini-School has a 25-year history in Columbus, with programs offered in both the core two-year curriculum, as well as graduate classes.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

ESOL is a year round program that teaches English to those of all nationalities. Both day and evening classes are offered. Citizenship classes prepare immigrants to take the naturalization test to obtain U.S. citizenship. All classes are offered free of charge. For more information, call Yass Benis (614) 559-6202.

SILVER SNEAKERS MEMBERS – Join the JCC for FREE!

The JCC offers The Silver Sneakers Fitness Program – the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for adults age 65 and over. “The program has physical activity, health education and social events,” said Linda Starr, JCC Member Services director. “Individuals who are Medicare-eligible may qualify for The Silver Sneakers Program and receive a general senior adult membership to the JCC at no cost.”

Silver Sneakers members have access to the JCC’s Diamond Family Fitness Center, including cardio and weight equipment, indoor and outdoor pools, and Silver Sneakers fitness classes, as well as group exercise and water fitness classes, racquetball and tennis courts, gymnasium and walking track. Members receive a free equipment orientation, and fitness assessments are available for a nominal fee.
