Meet the Head Coach, Tony Phillips
Tony Phillips got his start coaching at the Eastmoor Summer Pool, where he also competed as an age-group swimmer. After captaining his high-school swim team (Eastmoor ’90,) and setting a Columbus City-League record, he went on to earn his education degree at Otterbein College. Tony has coached Bishop Hartley’s high school swim team since 1995. In 2010, the Hawks girls’ & boys’ teams placed 2nd & 8th in the state, respectively.
He is a two-time masters state swimming champion, has taught middle school math/science in Columbus City Schools since 1998, and founded the Green Wave middle-school swim team for Columbus Diocesan students in 2006.
Tony has conducted age-group stroke clinics for all swimming levels at the YMCA for over 10 years and done private stroke analyses for numerous high school, college, masters, and triathlon swimmers. He’s seen over 30 high-school athletes from his programs earn All-State honors, and is just as happy to watching a beginning swimmer compete in his or her first race!
Tony joined the Dynamo coaching staff as an assistant in 2009 and took on head-coaching duties of Capital City in 2015. He and his wife, Lori, have four kids who all equally share his enjoyment of the water.
