2nd Annual JCC Independence Triathlon, July 3, 2011
Join the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Greater Columbus and HFP Racing on Sunday, July 3, for the 2nd Annual JCC Independence Triathlon, at the JCC Hoover Family Park, 4290 E. Walnut St., Westerville.
The race will feature a 300-yard serpentine swim in the heated Hoover Family Park pool, followed by a 12-mile bike ride on the country roads around the Hoover Reservoir, and finishing with an out-and-back 5k run. Participation in this USAT sanctioned event is limited to the first 300 registrants.
This race is the perfect first-timer event for those wanting to get their feet wet in the sport of triathlon, or a nice speed session for the veteran triathlete.
Last year, in its inaugural year, the event had more than 260 triathletes from across Ohio who competed in the event plus volunteers, friends, family members and supporters who were on site to cheer on the participants.
All triathlon finishers will be awarded a handsomely engraved medal with a ribbon. The overall male and female finisher also will be awarded an engraved watch, sponsored by Edward Warren’s Jewelers in Pickerington. Second Sole will provide gift certificates for the top three winners in every age group.
Members who prefer doing a specific portion of the triathlon may team up with other members to form a relay.
Early Bird entry fees (prior to June 15) are $60 per individual and $85 per relay team. Entry fees from June 16 through July 1 are $70 per individual and $95 per relay team. All pre-registered participants will receive an official race technical t-shirt, post race food and beverages and much more. Registration is available at the JCC or online at HFP Racing.
Race Packets may be picked up Saturday, July 2, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Roll Bicycle Store in the Easton Town Center, and on Sunday, July 3, at the race site, from 6 to 7:45 a.m. Timing Chips also will be distributed at the race site on race day.
As this is a beginner-level triathlon, the JCC is conducting training programs for those wishing to compete. Volunteers Needed
If you’re still unsure about competing, why not sign up to volunteer? We are looking for 60 volunteers of all ages and abilities to direct foot and vehicle traffic, work a registration station, hand out water to thirsty runners, serve post-race food and much, more.
