Counselor In Training (CIT) Program

For young adults entering 9th grade and older

Participants receive extensive hands-on training and experience while developing their leadership skills, knowledge of child development, and programming ability.

Summer 2012:  June 25- July 20th

  • CITs will have the opportunity to become CPR, First Aid, and AED certified through the American Red Cross. These certifications will better prepare CITs to handle situations that might arise at camp and throughout the academic year.
  • Community Service Rocks! CITs will spend time volunteering at Wexner Heritage Village to learn first hand that giving back to the community is important and fun!
  • A day at Camp Hoover! CIT participants will learn various teambuilding techniques throughout the summer, however the highlight will be a day spent at Camp Hoover working as a team to complete the ropes course and reach the top of the climbing wall!

CITs will get to experience what it’s like to be both a counselor and a specialist at JCC Camps. Participants will rotate through each of the Eastside camps for the first 3 weeks, shadowing senior counselors and specialists (in specialty areas of their choice!). The 4th week will be devoted to earning certifications, as well as planning and executing a camp-wide program!

The benefits of participating in the Counselor in Training (CIT) program are endless! Upon completion of the program, all CITs are awarded with a certificate, a reference letter to use for future jobs, and if participants decide to work at camp in the future, they have earned a year of experience, which will bump them up a level salary-wise! Additionally, all CIT participants will receive a summer membership to the JCC which grants access to the pool, gym, Hoover family park, and more!  CITs can choose to continue volunteering for the duration of camp if they so choose at the discretion of the CIT Director.  CITs MUST fill out a staff application, which can be downloaded in the staff section of the website, and turn that into the CIT Director in addition to the registration form.
