Columbus BBYO Youth Win Big at 2012 Regionals

Columbus sent 34 BBYO teens to the 2012 KIO Regionals in Cincinnati. The event, held December 21-24 at the Kingsgate Marriott in Cincinnati, celebrated the year’s accomplishments of the current regional board. Elections were also held for new members to the 2013 BBYO KIO regional board.

According to BBYO Director Mark Moscardino, the Columbus BBYO teens swept the awards ceremony and the elections. “We brought 34 amazing Jewish teens and I am proud of each and every one of them and their achievements,” said Moscardino.

Congratulations to all the 2012 BBYO winners. The Columbus POPS DSK boys’ chapter won AZA Chapter of the Year. Girls’ chapter Aliah won BBG Program of the Year for their “Mind Body Attitude Sleepover.” The Heart of Ohio boys’ chapter won AZA Program of the Year for their annual “TOGA Party.”

Sam Dolen won AZA Aleph of the Year, along with Mazkir and Shaliach of the Year. Greg Feinberg won Moreh of the Year, Zoe Phillips won Mazkirah of the Year, and Ben Lustig won Gizbor of the Year.

Columbus teens dominated the regional elections. Halle Herman was elected the KIO region’s BBG N’Siah, or president. Max Agranoff was elected the KIO region’s AZA S’gan and will lead the region’s AZA teams in coordinating programming and events.

Congratulations to Sam Dolen who not only won AZA Aleph, Mazkir, and Shaliach of the Year, but was also elected KIO’s Regional AZA Mazkir and will now lead the region’s communication efforts.

The competition was between the approximately 350 BBYO teens that make up the KIO (Kentucky-Indiana-Ohio) region. Moscardino added that about 150 teens attended the four-day weekend event. Judaism was incorporated throughout the weekend with a Shabbat service Friday evening and a Havdalah service Saturday.
