Introducing Michael Levison, Our New Marketing Director
In late March, Michael Levison returned to his roots, joining the JCC team as Marketing Director. Since then, the JCC has welcomed Mike with open arms, back to the Center where he spent much of his youth. A Bexley native and JCC member for many years, he attended JCC preschool and summer camp, was involved in BBYO, participated in recreation programs including the AK softball league and several basketball leagues, and served on the Board of Trustees.
Supporting the JCC is a family tradition for the Levison family, including Mike’s wife, Laurie, his two sons, Jeff and Gary, and his grandchildren. Mike and Laurie were part of the 1995 Maccabi Games Steering Committee. His children and grandchildren all attended JCC preschool. And Jeff and Gary, like their parents, were both involved in BBYO growing up. “The JCC tradition is carried on from generation to generation, and that couldn’t be more true for my family,” said Mike.
He explained that it was the emotional attachment of having grown up at the Center that brought him back to work there so many years later. “It’s important to give back and be part of the community. I still remember JCC camp songs. I remember the parking lot with the concrete turtles, the metal staircase, attending Columbus Hebrew School in the building, and the bowling alley. I’m still friends with some of the friends I made in preschool. We remember riding the yellow school bus to preschool together,” he said.
JCC Executive Director Carol Folkerth looks forward to seeing Mike’s love of the JCC translate into an agency-wide, results-driven marketing vision and strategy that incorporates the JCC’s mission to serve and strengthen the individual, family, and community. “His passion for the JCC and our work come through loud and clear,” she noted.
To his new position, Mike brings not only a love and passion for the Center of his longtime Jewish community but an enthusiasm for customer engagement and creative problem-solving. “I enjoy creating loyalty. I am driven by that and my desire to learn why people do things, what motivates them. I put 150% effort into everything I do,” Mike said of his background in advertising and public relations that began with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Ohio University.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Mike join us. He brings such a wealth of experience and passion for our Jewish community to this position. This is a combination that’s sure to yield great things for our agency and I’m excited to see what’s in store,” said Jennifer Cammeyer, JCC Board Vice president.
He has held marketing positions at DSW, Pivotal Strategies and Boot Barn, and brings a depth of experience and knowledge to the JCC’s Marketing and Communications Department. He has served on a variety of Boards including his synagogue and other not-for-profit agency Boards.
“My goal is to continue to build upon the great legacy the JCC has had now for 101 years. We can use that as a guiding light to help us continue to serve the needs, wants, and desires of our members for the next 101 years,” he added.
