Join the JCC of Greater Columbus and the Trinity Lutheran Seminary for a rededication of an important memorial. The sculpture and garden were dedicated in an interfaith ceremony on May 23, 1999. This was Pentecost Day in the Christian tradition, which symbolizes the gathering of people of many lands and languages and the outpouring of God’s Spirit-giving unity and life. In addition to President Dennis Anderson, Ann Russell and Ward Cornett III and the entire Trinity Community gave support and leadership to Promise for Life. A host of people provided financial support. Under the leadership of Pastor Cornett, who previously served as Trinity’s liaison to the Jewish community, Promise for Life has proven to be a “living sculpture” providing continuing inspiration for interfaith dialogue and understanding.

Join us for an enlightening panel discussion moderated by 18fourty host, David Bashevkin, as we delve into the experiences of individuals navigating life as Jewish survivors and soldiers after the October 7th Hamas terrorist attacks.
Holocaust survivor, Fran Greenberg, will bravely share her poignant story of resilience, tracing her journey as a child hiding from Nazi persecution in Paris during World War II to finding refuge in the United States.
Or and Keren, survivors of the October 7th events, will provide firsthand insights into their harrowing experiences living across the street from the battle at the police station in their city. Or, an infantry soldier in a special Medical Evacuation Unit, will offer his perspective as an IDF reservist and security engineer in Israel. Meanwhile, Keren, born in Jerusalem and dedicated to working with at-risk youth, will share her journey as a Hamas attacks survivor while 7 months pregnant, traveling from Sherut Leumi in Haifa to her current role in Sderot.

Yom HaZikaron, taking place at the JCC on May 12th, in collaboration with the JCC and Friends of the IDF, will host a solemn ceremony commemorating fallen heroes through prayer, song, speeches, and candle lighting, under the theme “Giborei Yisrael”.
Witnesses of the Israel Hamas war will join from May 12-14th to visit local institutions and speak at the ceremony. The event will feature Israeli songs, posters honoring victims of the Israel-Hamas War, and photos from the Humans of October 7th exhibit. Congregation leaders and Israeli representatives will share personal stories, accompanied by videos from Kfar Saba partners. The ceremony will conclude with the singing of HaTikvah and the distribution of yahrzeit candles.

Celebrate at the JCC on May 14th from 5-8pm, coinciding with Israel’s 76th birthday celebration. This year, our focus is on fostering community unity and solidarity.
The event will feature a “Blue and White” shuk and Mitzvah fair, showcasing various projects aimed at supporting Israel. Partner agencies have been invited to lead these projects, ranging from planting red anemone flowers to supporting displaced families. Additionally, small business owners from Israel will be present to share and sell their products. The evening will also include a performance by Josh Warshawski, adding to the festive atmosphere.
