JCC Brings Global Pianists to Columbus

If you’re going to a fundraiser you might as well be entertained. Dueling Pianos International will take center stage on April 1 at 8:30 pm at the 2017 JCC Gala and will provide fast, fun, and unforgettable entertainment. Two sharp-witted, incredibly talented dueling piano players that have a lot of experience entertaining donors and guests at fundraisers and events around the world will be the feature entertainment.

Great entertainment is important because the funds being raised are important. The JCC Gala is the biggest party of the year, but it is also so much more than a party. This year, the Gala will benefit scholarships for children. Funds raised from the JCC Gala will ensure that the more than 200 families who are experiencing financial hardship will have access to JCC programs and activities.

“Our goal is to bring the community out and to support our children,” said JCC Gala co-chair Julie Cohen. Cohen and co-chair Richard Williams both emphasized the importance of the funds raised at the Gala and their excitement in having the funds go to children’s programs at the JCC.

JCC Scholarships send children to the award-winning Early Childhood program, summer camps, and after school care. Jewish children get to experience the joy of swimming, being in nature, learning new skills like the high-ropes course and more each year at the JCC summer camps. The JCC Early Childhood Education program was just voted top preschool by the Columbus Dispatch. It is the only full-day Jewish early childhood program offered in Columbus. The afterschool program, Kaleidoscope, offers a variety of activities from art, sports, free play to homework help and educational classes

The casino-inspired event will showcase an evening of casino games, a sports bar, dancing, raffles and a silent auction that will highlight children’s artwork. “It’s going to be a fun time,” Williams said. “I think will people will have fun coming and supporting the center, whether it’s the casino or dueling pianos enjoying Chef Tony’s excellent menu. No good Jewish event goes without having good food.’

The Dueling Pianos concept highlights two musicians – both excellent pianists and vocalists – who engage the audience through song requests, sing-alongs and completely interactive performances. Lauded by many for their ability to engage audiences from beginning to end, the Dueling Pianos company performs on a global level, emphasizing performances in the United States, Canada and Europe. Through showmanship and stellar musicianship, the Dueling Pianos international concept is completely audience driven. From Jazz standards to classical favorites, from show tunes to Rock and Roll, audience members can sing along, request songs, and participate in interactive comedic sketches.

“To me, this is really exciting because it’s different,” said Gala co-chair Williams. “It will be a great event if people come and participate and see all the different kinds of music that can be heard. We can go from older times of music from the ‘40s and ‘50s, to the ‘70s, ‘80s to even current type music depending on what patrons want to come and ask for. We can promise two professional and wonderful musicians and it will be a great time.”

Besides the featured performance, the lobby of the JCC will be transformed into a fully functioning casino. Williams continued, “I think people sort of enjoy casinos and getting into fantasies about being the gamblers and getting to do all sorts of fun things at the event that they may not do in their ordinary life.”
