Camp Hoover may be located far from the main JCC campus in Bexley, but Co-directors Mark Moscardino and Stephanie Markowitz are anything but far from being ready for camp. For many months Mark and Stephanie have been preparing for campers to return to Hoover for their best summer yet. Along with new and returning counselors, great programming, and a spirit stick to liven up camp ruach, Hoover is on its way for an incredible summer.

Nominations Now Being Accepted for Jewish Scholar Athlete Awards

Applications for the Don Erkis/Lou Berliner High School Jewish Scholar/Athlete Award are now being accepted for the 2012 scholarship. The High School Jewish Scholar Athlete Program was established to recognize local high school Jewish athletes who have excelled in the classroom and in the athletic arena. The scholarship is endowed by the family of Don Erkis, in the memory of Don Ekris and Lou Berliner. Both men, members of the Jewish Center Sports Hall of Fame, were active sportsmen their entire lives. Their interest and involvement with high school Jewish athletes was an inspiration to all.

To be eligible for the award candidates must reside in the Central Ohio area, be a Jewish high school student graduating and attending college, have participated in a high school sport, club level sport, or other recognized amateur sport, and must have at least a 3.0 G.P.A.

Join J-Reach in Northwest Columbus when author Tim Fields-Meyer comes to speak about his book Following Ezra, a heartwarming, intimate, and amusing memoir of a father's experience raising his autistic son.

When Tom Fields-Meyer’s son Ezra was three and showing early signs of autism, a therapist suggested that the father needed to grieve. “For what?” he asked. The answer: “For the child he didn’t turn out to be.”

JCCs of North America - New Orleans Biennial 2012

The 2012 JCC Association Biennial Excellence Awards were announced last week which honored JCCs for their exceptional achievements. The winners represent impressive ideas in programming, service, and marketing. The JCC of Greater Columbus was recognized for outstanding work accomplished and received two awards, maintaining financial sustainability and growth and programmatic excellence and user engagement.

The Kol Ha Kavod award for maintaining financial sustainability and growth was awarded due to the initiative which began in the spring of 2009.
