RECENT HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
Eric Schottenstein grew up in Columbus and went to Columbus Academy. While in high school, he made two OHSAA state appearances in singles and doubles tennis play. Eric went on to play at Tufts University, a Division III school in Boston. At Tufts, Eric was a four-year letter winner. After college, Eric played on the National United States Amateur Circuit where he achieved a Top 8 ranking in Doubles & Top 32 ranking in Singles.
Dennis Mendelson was born in Columbus in 1947. Dennis lived in Bexley and attended Bexley schools where he became the captain of the swim team and received many diving awards. He learned diving and gymnastic skills at the Jewish Community Center and competed for the JCC and Bexley High School swim programs. Dennis continued his athletic career on an athletic scholarship at The Ohio State University in gymnastics where he specialized in trampoline events.
Michael Lee Boren was born in Columbus in 1962. In high school, he played football at Eastmoor High School. Mike got recruited to play football at the University of Michigan and had a stellar career there. He started for three years and accumulated 332 tackles, which ranks him in the top ten tackles of all time in Michigan football history.
Jeff Edelstein grew up in Bexley and was a state champion at the age of nine when he won the Punt, Pass and Kick competition. During his four years of high school, he earned four letters in track and field, one letter in basketball, and one letter in wrestling. He received a complete football scholarship to the University of Colorado. He also walked onto The Ohio State University football team.
Amy Schiff Ackerstein, a student from Bexley High School, was the first female athlete to earn 12 Varsity letters in four sports – tennis, basketball, softball, and swimming. In high school she amassed several honors and records, including: co-captain of the softball team, captain of the tennis team, and winning the State tennis doubles championship with her partner. She attended Syracuse University on a four-year tennis scholarship. Ackerstein and her tennis partner were three-peat Big East Doubles Champions and ended up being ranked 11th nationally.

JEWISH SPORTS HALL OF FAME CRITERIA
The JCC of Greater Columbus Jewish Sports Hall of Fame program was established in 1979 to recognize Jewish individuals who have excelled in the world of athletics.
In accordance with the credo of the Hall of Fame, “May their achievements and example light the way for generations to come,” many Jewish sports-persons have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inaugural event on October 21, 1979.
The following criteria for induction have been established by the JCC of Greater Columbus Sports Hall of Fame committee:
– Candidate must be Jewish
– Candidate must be 35 years of age or older
– Candidate must have been an outstanding athlete or coach in an amateur or professional athletics
– Candidate must be a native of Columbus or a resident of the Columbus area
Applications to the Hall of Fame will be reviewed annually by the Hall of Fame Committee. All applications not selected will remain in the Hall of Fame file for consideration in future years. Updated information may be supplied at any time.
The Honoree(s) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the JCC Sports Spectacular Event.
